Rosie and Hafiz Khandwala are the founders of Aqua Natural Ltd. The husband and wife team were the first to introduce the concept of sugar waxing in the UK.
Rosie grew up using sugar waxing back in Tanzania where she grew up. After moving to the UK in 1987, she was unable to find sugar waxing anywhere in the retail or professional market. Seeing this gap in the market, the pair decided to start manufacturing out of their own facility in Northamptonshire, UK, where they are still located to this day.
Their own lines of beauty professional and retail products was launched, but also entered the contract manufacturing world as well. This is where the original sugar waxing hair removal product for The Body Shop was created. For 18 years it became a global bestseller until they were purchased by L’Oréal.
This is now available for beauty professionals to use in their salons and give their customers the best feeling wax treatment they have ever experienced.
The business was established in 1988, with the aim of developing a completely natural range of skincare products that are free of artificial additives and are environmentally friendly. We have strived to use centuries-old traditional eastern recipes in our formulation, but we have updated them to suit modern life and to produce the highest quality hair removal product.
Aqua Natural products are registered as vegan by The Vegan Society, approved as cruelty-free under the Leaping Bunny programme. Our products are % free from chemicals and are completely water soluble, so are not as messy as traditonal waxing treatments.
We have proven track record of having supplied strip sugaring both as our own brand and have contract manufactured for over 30 years.
We have marketed to professionals (beauty salons) and retail sector, incl. Body Shop Intl. We’re at the forefront in the development of this type of product in the UK.

I am Rosie Khandwala, Co- founder of Aqua Natural Ltd, I introduced and pioneered the concept of Strip Sugaring into UK back in 1989.
Everyone’s journey starts somewhere, my beauty career started in Tanzania where I grew up. From the age of 15, I worked part time as an apprentice in my cousin’s salon.
Growing up in the tropics the most frequent treatments in the salons was waxing but with sugar paste. The paste was made in-house using the traditional method of mixing sugar and lemon juice, made to a consistency which was applied similarly like waxing using strips.
When I moved to the UK in 1987, I noticed a complete absence of any sugar based waxing products in the professional market. It took no time for me to seize this opportunity.
I furthered my knowledge of sugar chemistry by attending Leather Food College. We have now a refined product formulated from using blend of sugar syrups. Eliminating lemon juice gives the product smooth applicable consistency and efficacy. It remains unique in the market for the simplicity of its formulation and its high-quality results.
As a company we have a track record of maintaining ethical standard in our manufacturing practice to keep it clean and green for the future of environment. All the ingredients used in the manufacturing of our product range are biodegradable and sourced from companies that comply with equally high standards. With more than 30 years in the industry as manufacturers we have proved to be the market leaders in this sector.

With my wife, Rosie, we founded Aqua Natural in 1989. Before that I was working in Tanzania for 10 years. Our family businesses there are now managed by the 8th generation, and we have taken the family values of honesty and integrity to Aqua Natural.
Fun fact – I have lived in 5 countries and on 4 continents.

As the next generation of Khandwala’s at Aqua Natural the business has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. I officially joined Aqua Natural in 2012 as Marketing Director. My passion and interest for the business has always been there and I have been deeply influenced by Hafiz and Rosie who have inspired my advocacy for ethical beauty products.
Outside of Aqua Natural I enjoy sport, in particular cricket. I also enjoy cooking and discovering new podcasts.
